Operations Supervisor – 2nd Shift – Glastonbury, CT

July 1, 2026 by Haley Doyle

Job Category: Operations
Job Type: Full Time
Job Location: Glastonbury

JOB SUMMARY:

Race Rock is seeking a hands-on, high-accountability Operations Supervisor to lead second-shift operations across both Fabrication and Galvanizing Departments. This role will serve as the primary leadership presence on second shift, with primary responsibility for overseeing Fabrication operations while also acting as the key escalation point for after-hours Galvanizing support.

This is a working leadership role—not a desk job. Due to the size of the second-shift fabrication team, the supervisor is expected to actively support production while simultaneously leading people, driving performance, and maintaining accountability. The ideal candidate is a strong floor leader who can make sound decisions under pressure, enforce standards consistently, and develop people while maintaining a safe, productive, and disciplined work environment. This position is a critical part of Race Rock’s long-term operational strategy as we continue integrating Fabrication and Galvanizing under a unified operating model. Strong advancement opportunities exist for candidates who demonstrate leadership potential and operational excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and develop second-shift employees across assigned departments
  • Maintain accountability for attendance, performance, conduct, and policy compliance
  • Address employee issues through coaching, documentation, and corrective action when necessary
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergencies, incidents, and shift escalation issues
  • Drive a culture of ownership, urgency, teamwork, and accountability

Production & Operations

  • Execute daily production schedules to meet customer demand and shipment commitments
  • Allocate labor and resources to maximize throughput and efficiency
  • Monitor shift performance, downtime, bottlenecks, and schedule attainment
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, and process reliability
  • Provide effective shift turnover communication with first-shift leadership

Fabrication Oversight

Oversee and support fabrication processes including:

  • Welding
  • Plasma cutting
  • Saw operations
  • Punching / stamping
  • Roll forming
  • Shearing
  • Milling / drilling / grinding
  • Material handling and forklift operations

Ensure production meets engineering, quality, and customer requirements.

Galvanizing Support

  • Provide after-hours operational support for galvanizing operations
  • Assist with safety incidents, equipment issues, labor challenges, and production disruptions
  • Support operational consistency between Fabrication and Galvanizing teams

Safety & Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Promote and enforce all safety, environmental, and operating procedures
  • Respond to injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Complete shift reporting, payroll/timekeeping review, and production documentation
  • Ensure housekeeping and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years in manufacturing, fabrication, galvanizing, or heavy industrial operations
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and industrial process knowledge
  • Ability to lead in fast-paced, high-accountability environments
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP, and production reporting systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in metal fabrication, structural steel, or highway safety manufacturing
  • Experience with cranes, rigging, forklifts, and material flow systems
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
