Race Rock / Galvanizing
galvanizing OVERVIEW
Corrosion protection that lasts decades — not years.
WHAT IS IT?
Hot-Dip Galvanizing by
Race Rock
Race Rock provides hot-dip galvanizing — a proven method of corrosion protection that has been used to protect steel for over 150 years. Steel is immersed in molten zinc to form a metallurgically bonded coating that provides superior corrosion protection for decades with no required maintenance.
With nearly 50 years of experience and two full-service locations in Marion, OH and Glastonbury, CT, we deliver a quality finish, competitive pricing, and dependable lead times — backed by design consultation to help get your parts galvanized right the first time.

KETTLE & CAPACITY
BUILT TO HANDLE YOUR SCALE
Our kettle dimensions are 30′6″ long × 5′ wide × 7′6″ deep — and we can process material up to 48 feet long via progressive dipping, which allows us to galvanize many products that exceed the kettle’s physical dimensions.
For parts too large to fit standard dipping, progressive dipping is often possible. Contact your nearest location for a sizing consultation.

HOW IT WORKS
THE GALVANIZING PROCESS
Galvanizing comes down to three basic steps: surface preparation, galvanizing, and inspection.

CLEAN · PICKLE · FLUX
SURFACE PREPARATION
The galvanizing reaction won’t occur on steel that isn’t perfectly clean. Thorough cleaning removes dirt, grease, oil, and paint markings. Pickling in dilute acid removes scale and rust. Fluxing removes oxides and promotes the zinc-to-steel reaction. Epoxies, vinyl, asphalt, and welding slag must be removed beforehand.

DIP IN MOLTEN ZINC
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
The prepared steel is immersed in molten zinc, forming a series of zinc-iron alloy layers metallurgically bonded to the steel. Parts up to 48 feet long can be processed via progressive dipping.

ASTM VERIFIED
Inspection
Coating thickness and finish are checked against ASTM standards where applicable, prior to repackaging and final completion. Certified test reports are available on request.

Standards We Meet
Certifications &
Standards
Every project is hot-dip galvanized to meet or exceed ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, MIL, and other applicable specifications — including ASTM A123 for structural steel, ASTM A153 for fasteners and hardware, and A767 for rebar. Certified compliance means the corrosion protection on your steel is verified, consistent, and built to perform for decades.
Industry Memberships
Associations &
Affiliations
We’re proud members of the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) and supporters of the 100-Year Strong Rebar Alliance — affiliations that reflect our commitment to quality, sustainability, and infrastructure built to last. Through our regional operations, we also maintain memberships with organizations such as the Steel Fabricators of New England (SSFNE), keeping us closely connected to the fabricators, engineers, and customers we serve across each market.
