Drafting Manager – Full Time – Fort Worth, TX

SUMMARY:

As Drafting Manager, you will lead our drafting team in producing precise, high-quality drawings that support the design and fabrication of tapered tubular steel transmission and substation structures. In this role, you’ll drive innovation in digital drafting practices, mentor a skilled team, and ensure that our deliverables consistently meet the highest standards of accuracy and manufacturability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead, mentor, and develop the Drafting Department to achieve team and company goals.
2. Oversee drafting schedules and ensure timely, accurate deliverables for steel manufacturing projects.
3. Review engineered designs and specifications for constructability and manufacturability.
4. Check and approve drawing packages prior to release for fabrication.
5. Develop, maintain, and continuously improve drafting standards, workflows, and best practices.
6. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing to align deliverables with project requirements.
7. Drive adoption of new digital drafting tools, CAD software, and model-based practices.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive drafting and design experience with utility tapered tubular steel poles used in transmission lines and substations, including 3 years in a drafting management role.
• Proficiency in CAD software; familiarity with Autodesk Inventor is a plus.
• Solid understanding of AWS weld symbols and structural component detailing.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Work involves exposure to elements, such as ambient temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.

• Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and the use of personal protective equipment.
