Job Summary
Prevent and eliminate injury and illness to employees, assist with compliance of safety and environmental laws, inspect workplaces, oversee EHS programs and related employee training.
Duties and responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform safety inspections and ensure issues are addressed and resolved
- Coordinate with VP of Manufacturing on facility inspections, deficiencies and planned corrections.
- Provide daily guidance and direction of EHS programs at the employee and supervisor level to ensure common and effective program adherence
- Recommend changes to processes and procedures to improve safety and environmental risks
- Educate and train employees, including new hires and temporary contractors, on company safety and environmental policies
- Maintain and update SOP’s as needed for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in safety training programs and meetings
- Conduct regular safety meetings with employees, supervisors and managers
- Creation and communication of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual safety and environmental reports to management and required governmental agencies
- Chair the Safety Committee and lead and organize meetings and follow up on open issues
- Investigate safety incidents including the root cause of the incident and propose changes to minimize future risks
- Coordinate inspections by regulatory agencies and ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected.
- Oversee worker’s comp policy including the coordination with insurance provider and follow up with injured employees
- Maintain filing systems regarding worker training and safety
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting, accountable for researching and writing permit application and maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with maintaining the site preparedness and emergency plans and procedures
Minimum job requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, or a related scientific field, such as biology, chemistry or engineering. Five to ten years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities required:
- Must speak Spanish and English.
- Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and speak English and Spanish.
- Candidate needs to be an independent worker, self-motivated, require limited supervision and have excellent organizational skills.
- Candidate is a team player and able to build and maintain both internal and external relationships
- Working towards or has completed OSHA training courses #501, #503 and #511 for General Industry
