JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of Quality Control Inspectors to ensure all inspections, testing, and documentation comply with company and customer specifications, welding codes, and quality procedures. The Quality Control Supervisor supports the Quality Control Manager in maintaining the company’s Quality System, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and quality excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Culture
- Provide input to the Quality Manager on inspector performance and training needs to achieve company objectives for safety, quality, and performance.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and AWS D1.1 standards.
- Build a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement within the QC department.
- Mentor, coach, and develop QC Inspectors to strengthen technical expertise and teamwork.
- Collaborate with Production, Welding, and Engineering teams to maintain open communication and shared ownership of quality results.
Quality & Operations Management
- Supervise and assign daily inspection workloads to ensure timely and accurate inspections at all production stages.
- Verify inspection reports, NCRs, and quality documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Conduct spot inspections and internal audits to verify adherence to specifications, drawings, codes, and procedures.
- Coordinate with production supervision to resolve quality issues, track rework, and verify completion of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all quality standards per AWS D1.1, customer specifications, and company procedures.
- Participate in pre-production and post-production meetings to communicate quality requirements and inspection results.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring nonconformance trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve quality and reduce rework.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and root cause analysis initiatives to enhance quality performance.
- Recommend and support new inspection techniques, tools, and process improvements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Encourage employee involvement in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
Planning and Coordination
- Coordinate inspection staffing and schedules with project timelines to ensure adequate coverage and on-time delivery.
- Support material traceability, calibration, and documentation systems to maintain audit readiness.
- Assist the Quality Control Manager in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for nonconformance trends, inspection throughput, and corrective action completion.
- Provide timely updates and reports on quality performance to management.
Customer Engagement
- Assist management with supporting customer visits, audits, and inspections by ensuring QC readiness and professional representation of the company’s quality system.
- Ensure inspection and test records are maintained accurately and readily available for review by customers or auditors.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- CWI or SCWI required.
- Strong working knowledge of welding processes, NDE (non-destructive examination), and relevant codes and specifications (AWS, ASTM, AISC, etc.).
- Familiarity with painting and galvanizing inspection techniques and manufacturing processes related to company products.
- Proficient in Windows-based computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols and communicate requirements effectively.
- Skilled in the use of inspection and measuring tools, with the ability to train others in their proper use.
- Strong problems solving-skills, including root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide team members.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and promote safety and quality awareness at all levels.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- The successful candidate must undergo a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history evaluation. Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license is also required for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work involves exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises. Moderate physical activity; may require lifting up to 30 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods. Work environment involves exposure to potential hazards, requiring adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
