JOB SUMMARY:
This role creates and maintains fabrication and design drawings for tapered tubular utility and substation structures. The Drafter works with Engineering, Planning, and Manufacturing to ensure drawings are accurate, buildable, and compliant with customer and industry requirements. Success in this role directly impacts production efficiency, cost, and delivery performance. The ideal candidate has experience in utility or fabricated product environments and can quickly learn new CAD, and document control systems with training.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales to create, revise, and release drawings and fabrication documentation for utility projects and product lines.
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D models/drawings using Autodesk Inventor in accordance with project requirements and company drafting standards.
- Partner with production teams to resolve drawing or design issues identified during fabrication and after release.
- Maintain drawing libraries and related documentation, ensuring proper file organization and version control.
- Support new product development and continuous improvement efforts by contributing to design solutions and design-for-manufacturing practices.
- Assist in standardizing drafting templates, documentation practices, and CAD workflows across the team.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience (typically 5+ years of CAD drafting/design experience).
- Proficient in 2D and, or 3D CAD concepts; experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Experience drafting/modeling tapered tubular steel utility poles.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communicator and team collaborator.
- Ability to work independently with guidance while contributing to a team environment.
- Ability to work in a production-focused environment and respond to shop/field feedback professionally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
PREFERRED QUALITIFICATION:
- Experience drafting tapered tubular steel and substation structures.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, structural steel manufacturing, and welding processes.
- Experience with document control / revision control process.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Candidate must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- This position reports to the Drafting Manager.
- Work is typically performed in an office work environment.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Limited physical exertion required.
