![]() Dave Schultz
Schultz has almost single-handedly defined the sport of Pro Stock Motorcycle racing since he made his professional racing debut in 1982. His professionalism and dedication have helped. "When my older brother took me to my first drag race in 1959, he probably had no idea what an impression it would have on me," said Schultz, "I've raced something ever since." A soft-spoken but fiercely intense competitor, Schultz has appeared in the record books as a "regular" and has frequently raised the bar for the rest of the category through innovation and determination. His success was due, in large part, to his wok ethic: a total dedication to perfection, and a very mental and methodical approach to the sport, where no detail is left unattended and no stone unturned in the never-ending search for optimum results. A full time touring professional since 1988, Schultz and his crew annually spent more than nine months on the road, competing in more than 25 events in a season. Schultz's love of speed and competition enabled him to continue his success both on and off the track. He was a master Automotive Service Excellence technician and former technical trainer in the automotive repair industry and has built two successful businesses related to racing: a high tech automotive repair shop in Fort Myers, Florida and Schultz Racing Products, an engineering-based performance company that builds and markets race-ready Pro Stock motorcycles and their components. Schultz was one of the last of a rare breed of racers who is capable of building, maintaining, promoting, and riding his own bikes. His best season came in 1994 when he won 9 of 11 races on the NHRA tour, and compiled an unrivaled 40-2 win-loss record for the season. He also set the NHRA record for consecutive victories by a professional competitor, with eight-straight wins. A year earlier, he also enjoyed a six race win streak en route to another NHRA title, and was the first rider quicker than 7.60 seconds and faster than 180 mph with pass of 7.589 seconds, 181.85 mph at 1993 Pioneer Electronics Keystone Nationals. Schultz is the only rider to win the Pro Stock Motorcycle's Triple Crown by capturing championships in NHRA, Prostar and IDBA in 1991 and 1994. In 1996, he reached another career milestone when he won the FRAM Nationals for the seventh consecutive year. His amazingly consistent performances through the years have enabled him to compile 42 national events victories, ranking him near the top of all competitors, in all categories, in NHRA history. Dave Schultz's record of success during his career of motorcycle drag
racing is unmatched. We, along with the entire world of drag racing and
anyone who has ever met Dave, were saddened by his untimely death in February,
2001.
